Group A (Officer Class Job)

The highest post in The Indian Railway is known Group A officer (Gazetted Officers). Railway appoints Group A officers in ten departments. Group A Railway Job comprises of non-technical, technical and medical, services.

Non-Technical Group A Railway Service

Group A non-technical posts comprise of

  • Traffic Service (IRTS) 900 Officers
  • Personnel Service (IRPS) 400

Indian Railway appoints group A Non-Tech officers either via Civil service exam conducted by UPSC or vis promotion of group B officer in IRTC. Group A officers get salaries of about ₹ 80,000 to ₹ 90,000, plus perks such as HRA, medical, transport, etc.

Technical Group A Railway Service

Group-A technical posts comprise of,

  • Civil Engineer IRSE
  • Electric Engineer (IRSEE)
  • Mechanical Engineer (IRSME)
  • Stores Service (IRSS)
  • Signal Engineer (IRSSE)

Indian Railway appoints group A Technical officers by  IES (Indian Engineering Service) exams conducted by UPSC. An Engineer of Group A officers get salaries of about ₹ 80,000 to ₹ 90,000, plus perks such as HRA, medical, transport, etc.

Medical Service Group A

Indian Railway has its hospitals to maintain its staff health or handle any medical emergency. Only Doctors can apply for those posts. Indian Railway appoints medical service officers via Combined Medical Services Examination (CMES) conducted by UPSC. A Medical officer gets ₹ 80,000 to ₹ 90,000, plus perks such as HRA, medical, transport, etc.

Group B Railway Job

Indian railway recruits some officer in Group B post to train future officers on some technical posts and non-tech posts. Group B officers are appointed either direct recruitment or promotion of Group C personnel. Employees of Group C who have qualified a departmental competitive exam after serving a minimum of 5 years in the same grade can take promotion exams to get the promotion. Group B salary above ₹ 50000 a month plus perks such as HRA, medical, transport, etc.

 Group C Railway Job

Most of the railway running and maintenance staff belong to Group C. Group C covers both technical and non-technical posts. Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts exams to appoint the staffs on Group C for all 17 Railway Zones. RRB announces vacancies by the time. Some group C exams are very famous amongst Indians. NTPC, Loco pilot and technical Grade-III vacancies exam are conducted for Group C.

The pay grade of Group C is different than all other groups. An employee of group C gets the salary according to posts.

Group D Railway Job

To appoint the staff on the lower post of the Indian Railway Department, RRB conducts Group D exams. Group D consists of posts like Trackman, Gateman, Helpers, Apprentice, Porter, Cleaner etc. Group-D does not need a special qualification. 8th or 10th pass is the qualification of Group D. A Group-D employee gets ₹ 18000 a month.
