Let’s know all the basic information about the “CDS Exam”
UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts CDS Exam is twice a year for recruitment for the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy. The Notification for the exam is usually released in October and June, and the exam is conducted in February and November respectively. Only unmarried graduates are eligible to take the exam. Successful candidates are admitted into the respective Academies after an interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).

CDS Exam Eligibility
Before filling the form of CDS Exam, you must know CDS exam eligibility such as age, qualification, and physical stander etc. Here is the detail of the CDS Exam Eligibility.
CDS Exam Nationality Eligibility Criteria
For CDS Exam, the candidate must be an Indian citizen. The other countries citizen may also apply for the CDS Exam If, they have an eligibility certificate issued by the Indian Government. The eligible countries list is given below…
- Bhutan
- Nepal
- A permanently set Tibetan refugee who came to India before July 1, 1962, in India.
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.

CDS Exam Age Limit
Indian Military Academy | 19–24 years |
Air Force Academy | 19–24 years |
Naval Academy | 19–24 years |
Officers’ Training Academy | 19–25 years |
- Female candidates are eligible for OTA only.
- Married male candidates can apply only for Air Force Academy (AFA) and OTA.
CDS Exam Qualification
All the candidates who have completed their degree or should be appearing for the final year degree exam. The individual educational qualification required for each institution is given below.

Indian Air Force Academy | Degree, 12th with (PCM) |
Note: The candidates who are in the final years of their Degree Course are required to submit the proof of passing the requisite qualifying exam by a date to be specified in the Commission’s Notice for the Exam.
Physical Standards
Candidates must be physically fit for any post as per the physical standards set by the institute. Before applying for the Defence services the basic and the most important point for a candidate is to be physically and mentally fit. The Defence forces set a high level of physical standers. A candidate must confirm his physical fitness before filling the application form.

CDS Exam Pattern
UPSC conducts the CDS exam twice a year. Let’s have a brief discussion of CDS exam pattern. There are a written exam and an interview.
CDS Written Exam
Candidates must understand CDS written exam pattern and marking scheme. It helps you to get the maximum mark in your written exams. It is an offline MCQ type exam so be careful, While taking the exam.

Caution of Written Exam
- Negative Marking: You must fill the dots in OMR sheet when you know the right option. If you are not sure about the answer then, leave that question. If you choose the incorrect option then, your 1/3 marks will be deducted for incorrect answer. However, if you leave the question unanswered then, There will be no negative marking.
- Exam Level: Elementary Mathematics is the matriculation level and other subjects are graduation level.
SSB Interview
After passing the CDS written exam, The successful candidates have to face SSB interview. It is not a common interview. SSB has a five-day interview schedule. So, Be prepared for the toughest interview. Let’s have a brief dissection of SSB Schedule.
